This is my inaugural post here at Camp Hoopus, my thanks to wd and S&P for making the offer to work myself up into a lather over here. Hopefully, folks will find my rants entertaining. Just remember, I come in peace...
As for last night's Boston game, why not just call it a season, and go right into sitcom development? A show about a hapless, former NBA player and long time stooge who gets promoted to head coach by a stubborn, irascible VP--a former NBA All-Star himself--would be much better than the CBS offering "The Captain". I'll join the chorus of my esteemed colleagues here; I'm not sure why Wittman had three perimeter guys who can't shoot consistently in at the end of the game. No Gomes, no McCants, no Green, no Foye, no Walker...someone--ANYONE--that might be able to hit a three ball at the end of the game. It's not like the defense at that point in the game was solid. And, can we finally put the tandem of Jefferson and Smith to rest? When Leon Powe makes you his girlfriend, it's time to change the lipstick, and get a different fitting dress.
Let's chat about Brewer for a moment. Here's where the biggest mistake in player development is being made. Right now, the way CB should be scoring is with his defense and transition game. Let the rest of the offense come to him over the course of a couple of years, practicing on his shot in the off-season. They should NOT be running plays for him in an actual game. The problem with particularly him and Foye at this point is that they think they need to take over the game to be effective. There's no playing within the rhythm of the game.
I'm still giving Foye a pass right now. Why? Because he wants to be the Alpha Dog, like Jefferson and McCants, and it's clear he's not ready, physically or mentally. It's really up to the coaching staff to establish the pecking order and develop schemes that will make the player successful. It's obvious what Randy wants in the front court (e.g. - Jefferson and Smith/Gomes), but now that Foye is back, he's displaying that same indecisiveness and mediocre decision-making that will ultimately be his undoing...at least for normal NBA teams. As long as McHale's around, Wittman might have a Flip-like tenure.
Yes, the team has been playing better of late. But this week against superior competition, we can see how far they have to go. Games like this hurt the psyche of players and fans alike, and so my offer to develop a sitcom out of this stands, at least until the writer's strike is over. Raquel Welch as Dance Team coach, anyone?

Welcome to Hoopus finewein,
Welcome to Hoopus finewein, glad you're here! You're right about Leon Powe. He's a decent backup in this league, but he ran wild on our front-court. I guess I'm just glad it wasn't Scalabrine making us into his special-lady-friend.
I had to look up irascible.
Welcome!!! We're very happy
Welcome!!! We're very happy to have you here. I love the sitcom take. I've always debated whether or not this squad was a soap opera, a tragedy, or a sitcom. You make a very good case for the sitcom. I also agree with the take on Brewer. They should make him an understudy of Gomes; a guy who knows how to get what comes to him in the flow of the game.
